DISKO BAY GREENLAND PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR 2016
JOIN US AND EXPERIENCE THE MAGNIFICENT LANDSCAPE WHILST IMPROVING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS
THE LOCATION: DISKO BAY AREA, GREENLAND
The photography tour will mainly focus on 2 locations in the Disko Bay area: Ilulissat and Disko Island. They are situated on the west coast of Greenland, 250 km north of the Arctic Circle.
Ilulissat features the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ilulissat Icefjord. This Icefjord is one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland icecap reaches the sea. It annually calves over 35km3 of ice and the combination of those huge icebergs, beautiful light and clear air makes for a dramatic and awe-inspiring natural phenomenon.
The landscape of Disko Island was created by volcanic activity and is therefore characterised by basalt hills. It features an interesting coastline with black beaches, columnar basalt rock formations and beautiful waterfalls. The island also features unique lush vegetation, with beautiful autumn colours, that cannot be found elsewhere in Greenland.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
We will explore the two locations on foot, by boat and helicopter.
In the Ilulissat area we:
hike to different locations to shoot the colourful village and the icebergs from different perspectives under varying light conditions
sail on a private boat to capture the icebergs from unique perspectives
- fly around with a helicopter to experience the vastness of Greenland and the UNESCO Icefjord from above
On Disko Island we:
- hike to a spectacular area with basalt rosettes, arches and (sea)stacks and lush vegetation
- hike along a river to a beautiful area with waterfalls
- hike to a black beach featuring growlers (small pieces of the icebergs)
We will be available to teach you, answer your questions, offer guidance and assist you with your photographic needs. In addition to the in-the-field time, there will be some presentations and workshops to help you get the best of Greenland. On-demand workshops can also be arranged for, for instance to learn about Long Exposure photography.
The tour focuses on landscape photography and is suitable for participants of all levels of experience in photography. The tour will be intense: we will mainly head out before sunrise, during sunset and at night. Many locations are only accessible by foot, therefore a basic level of fitness is required.
Please be aware that this is not a luxury tour. Life in the Arctic is basic and it gets cold. Obviously we cannot guarantee nice weather and when needed the tour will adapted to the local circumstances.

The photography tour will be led by Johan Peijnenburg & Anette Mossbacher, both internationally awarded and published professional photographers.
Anette’s passion for Photography and Nature has taken her around the world from the freezing Arctic land of Polar bears to the lush Forests of the Orang-utan and the remote Wilderness of the African Lion and Elephant.
During the last 10 Years she has photographed, as a full time Nature Photographer, some of Natures most beautiful Landscape and it’s incredible Wildlife. The life of a Wildlife and Nature Photographer is one of long hours often in harsh conditions with no guarantee of success. But sometimes her patience is rewarded by capturing an unique photograph, it’s these euphoric moments that make all her hard work worthwhile.
Johan’s primary focus is on photographing landscapes and nature, both in color and black & white. Just showing spaces and capturing the presence of nature is not enough for him though. His images are never about just documenting a specific location. They are more about the mood, feeling or a special moment. Something needs to be happening.
Nature tells a different story every hour of every day. Nothing beats being out there to watch that story evolve and to hopefully capture a moment in a way that grabs your attention, is emotive and makes you want to look longer. Johan truly believes that crafting a good landscape image is an art, which takes time to master!
